Despite the fact that the Windows command prompt is extremely old, it is still used by a lot of people. Besides that, there are a lot of programs that still use the command prompt, especially old programs. Some users rely on these programs for completing their work. But in spite of its popularity, the Command Prompt seems very difficult to use and requires some experience. Fortunately, there is an alternative to this and that's PowerCmd. As the name suggests, this is a new and improved version of the old CMD program, having a lot of features that will simplify the use of it.

The software is compatible with all the versions of the Windows operating system, including 98, XP and Windows 7. Moreover, it takes up about 4 MB of hard disk space and has a straightforward installation process.

The first thing the user will notice about the program's interface is the resemblance between it and the old CMD program. But even though it looks alike, it's not the same. The features of PowerCmd are more numerous. The first difference is the line number displayed in the left of each line, making it easy to spot a certain command, in case there are a lot of them. The second thing is the fact that the text and background color can be modified, making it easy to read text.

PowerCmd can have an unlimited number of tabs. It's like opening a lot of CMD programs at the same time, each of them having its own commands. This way, it's easy to work with multiple programs at once, saving time and effort. All the typed commands are automatically saved as a log file, for later analysis. The user can choose to save the current state of the program when closing it or can choose to have a completely new session when he restarts it.

Pros

It has much more features than the old CMD program. Besides that, the color of the text and background can be changed. Furthermore, an unlimited number of CMD sessions can be opened and navigation between them can be easily made by using tabs.

Cons

The program requires some knowledge about CMD commands, so beginners might have some trouble using it at first.
